Extent: Fol. (540 x 335) I + 31 coloured maps

Astronomical Atlas of Johannes Gabriel Doppelmayer, academic, professor of mathematics at the Aegien secondary school (from 1704 until his death). He published scientific works on mathematics, geography, cartography, and astronomy, including sun dials, spherical trigonometry, globes, and celestial maps. Doppelmayer developed a close relationship with cartographer Johann Batista Homann (1664 - 1724) who settled in Nuremburg in 1688 and become a map carver for Jacob von Sandrart and David Funck. In 1702, Homann founded an influential cartographic publishing house, which was run by his son Johann Christoph Homann (1703 - 1730) after his death, and after his death his friend Johann Michael Franz (1700-1761) and his step-sister’s husband Johann Georg Ebersberger (1695-1760) under the name “Homännische Erbena”. The publishing house survived under various names until 1848. Condition: The atlas is in its original, slightly worn binding. The title page is missing. The maps are complete, in very good condition. Bottom edges of four maps are slightly torn.
